X-MasteR is the user-friendly operating software for the modern suit of X-ray systems produced by Röntgenanalytik Messtechnik. It is programmed using the most modern software tools available for Windows® operating platforms (i.e. Borland C++ builder ). The main task of the operating software is the control of all system parameters such as high voltage settings, X-ray tube current, control of collimators and filters as well as the collection and manipulation of the measurement data.
Windows®-programming. The advantages of modern Windows® software become evident during the system’s daily operation. Clearly arranged menus, easily understood icons to help the operator through the program steps and compatibility with commercial Windows® software, all go to make the operation of X-MasteR software range extremely simple and familiar.
Safety. A major task of the operating software is to assure the complete safety in the operation of the X-ray system. This includes the control of all the various safety interlocks and functions needed for the German Government approval and license as a fully fail-safe closed beam instrument.
Fun-MasteR – module to create applications without standards. Using the FPM (Fundamental Parameter Method) the Fun-MasteR allows the creation of coating measurement applications for single, dual and triple layer coatings quickly and without standards. This modern way to generate new applications for coating thickness measurements is based upon complex physical calculation models. Three simple steps and Fun-MasteR has generated a new application for up to three layer coatings, including alloy coatings.
Optimum spectra treatment in X-MasteR. Since the beginning of X-ray spectroscopy one major challenge for accurate analysis has been to detect interference spectra and to account for them in calculations. This includes peak overlap, background abnormalities and treatment of artefacts. Within X-MasteR complex mathematical calculations are used for drift- corrected peak deconvolution to achieve optimum information from X-ray spectra.
Stage-MasteR – sample positioning module. When the system is configured with a motorised X-Y-Z stage it can be programmed to automate a variety of tasks. The “Point & Measure” feature allows fast positioning. Just by a mouse click the sample is brought to the desired analysis position. Special tools, like “Line- Scan” and “Grid”, provide even greater flexibility in stage programming.
µ-MasteR – the advanced evaluation module for coating thickness measurement. Newly developed algorithms offer universal solutions for almost all coatings used in industry. Even complex multi layer coatings can be examined however, sometimes, the laws of physics determine the actual limits. The analysis of alloy coatings can be performed without any problem giving, as results, the composition and thickness simultaneously. Also here multi layer coatings can be analysed. The typical measurement time is from a few seconds up to 30 seconds, depending in the required precision.
Element-MasteR – fast and simple qualitative analysis. Up to 20 elements can be identified simultaneously using this software module. It is possible to compare an unknown sample with a known standard by overlaying the X-ray spectra of the two for fast identification. A quick semiquantitative calculation of element counts and ratios enable positive materials identification. This particulary useful analysis module requires no calibrations and can be extended at any time by the operator for new elements.
%-MasteR – to get the best accuracy in material analysis. This analysis module allows quantification of up to 8 elements simultaneously. To achieve ultimate analysis accuracy, a method was chosen that utilises standard samples. To correct for interelement effects, a mathematical model similar to the well-known LUCAS-TOOTH algorithm is used. In comparison to models using fundamental parameters, the precision of a corrected models using standards is typically an order of magnitude better. A typical analysis result is shown in the table below.
