25 years Röntgenanalytik Messtechnik GmbH

Our organization Röntgenanalytik Messtechnik GmbH will be 25 years old in December 2007. We look back with pride and thank our customers who have accompanied our company during these years of successful expansion.

For strategic reasons we have decided to move our daughter company Röntgenanalytik Apparatebau GmbH situated in Berlin to our main company in Taunusstein. In this way we will make optimum use of synergies between the areas of Development, Production, Marketing/Sales, Application and Service at the same location

We are confident that after a short initial period of reorganization we will successfully meet new challenges, especially with the aim of shortening delivery times for our customers.

We will be happy to personally answer any questions you may have: f.seitz@roentgenanalytik.de

RoHS PCB and the question of the homogeneous material

The ROHS topic is still a matter of debate. From the point of view of the manufacturers of coating thickness analyzers the definition of the homogeneous material is the important point. For instance in the case of PCBs this problem can be demonstrated if the value of the critical elements like Pb results from the whole excited volume or from the thin Sn (Pb) layer on top.

For more information concerning this topic mail to f.seitz@roentgenanalytik.de

Thin Tin Layers

The accurate measurement of sub-µm tin layers on CuSn substrates is a challenge with normal proportional counter x-ray systems. Usually the layers are on the order of 0.1 to 0.3 µm in thickness and in these cases the quantification of layer thicknesses using Tin-K lines on CuSn6 or CuSn8 is unreliable. For applications in the automotive industry we suggest to use the Tin-L lines for thin Tin layers and we prepared special algorithms to use this signal for the quantification of Tin layer thicknesses, using a pin-diode x-ray detector.

RoHs/WEEE Examination
Only X-ray distribution maps give a clear answer!

The RoHS- regulations bans form 1st Juli 06 on electric or electronic products containing in their "homogenous materials" the elements Cr, Pb, Cd, Hg, PBB and PBDE above certain concentrations. Per definition is "homogenous material" in components like semi conductors, integrated circuits, capacitors or similar every used single substance within the component. A very informative publication can be found on the web pages of Farnell in One (www.farnellinone.com) or ERA Technologies (www.era.co.uk). The attached application report shows that only X-ray distribution pictures produced by µ-XRF-analysers give a clear answer where and how much of the banned elements can be found in the sample.

Micro-X-ray fluorescence – a versatile tool for RoHS/WEEE/ELV – compliance tests

The new european legislation bans potentially toxic elements like Cd, Pb, Hg and others from electronic components of the automotive industry, in household appliances and other fields. To comply to these restrictions control of components inside any electric and electronic equipment, like PCBs, metallic coatings, soldering contacts is necessary. The analytical tools need to be able to achieve low detection limits for the banned elements as well as be able to analyze small features, like individual contacts on PCBs. [more>>]
